Promoting Access to Therapy and Healing (PATH)

Providing a holistic and family centered approach.

The PATH program is a culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health initiative designed to address the complex needs of newcomer youth and their families in Winnipeg.

The program works in partnership with The Bilal Community and Family Centre, The Rahma Community and Youth Centre and Winnipeg Initiative for Refugees

We focus on removing systemic, cultural, and linguistic barriers to care while strengthening access to community-based mental health services. PATH takes a holistic, family-centered approach that integrates clinical therapy, peer support, community engagement, and system navigation to improve long-term mental health outcomes.

    Together, we can help:
• Increase access to culturally safe, trauma-informed mental health services for newcomer youth and families
• Address root causes of mental health challenges, including trauma, stigma, and systemic barriers
• Strengthen resilience, coping skills, and family relationships
• Improve mental health literacy and reduce stigma within ethno-cultural communities
• Build sustainable partnerships and referral pathways between community and mainstream systems

Activities:

• Weekly multilingual individual and family counselling delivered in community settings and at the centre

• Peer mentorship and weekly peer support groups to foster belonging and shared lived experience

• Mental health literacy workshops for youth, families, and community stakeholders

• Development of multilingual awareness materials and public education campaigns

• Community outreach and school-based engagement

• Partnership coordination, advisory committee engagement, and referral pathway development

• Ongoing evaluation and data-driven program improvement.
