Community Mental Health Services
All newcomers are eligible for this program regardless of status, including government assisted refugees (GARs), privately Sponsored Refugees (PSRs), refugee claimants, international students, immigrants (economic, provincial nominee, etc.), temporary foreign workers (TFWs) and newcomers who have become Canadian citizens.
We welcome individuals who are interested in the program whether they come to us directly, through an internal referral from another program, as well as third-party referrals from health professionals, educators, post-secondary institutions, child welfare, community members, private sponsors, etc.
If you are a third-party referrers, please be aware that:
Clients must be aware of and consent to the referral to therapy being made for them. Please tell the person you are making the referral for what you are referring them to and help them understand what therapy is if necessary.
Clients must be voluntary and informed. We do not convince people to utilize therapy if they are not interested.
Children and youth under 16 require the consent of all parents or legal guardians to access therapy as is legally required. Please get consent from all legal guardians to make the referral and include contact information for all legal guardians.
If you have any questions about the referral and intake process, you can contact the intake clinician at newcomer.referrals@aurorafamilytherapy.com, or for questions about the program overall, contact the program coordinator, Sara Warkentin, at s.warkentin@aurorafamilytherapy.com (needs new emails)
